Preventing your Scented Soy Pillar Candles from Loosing their Scent

June 24th, 2008 · No Comments

Obviously scented soy pillar candles give off the strongest aroma when they’re being burned. But the scent doesn’t stop evaporating just because you blow out the flame. The essential oils will continue to disperse and give off aroma at room temperature as long as the scented soy pillar candles are exposed to circulating air.

Because of this, some people use scented soy pillar candles to add light fragrance to their rooms on a continuous basis by just letting them sit, unlit, in the open air.

But there is a limit to the amount of fragrance in every scented soy pillar candle. So how can you prevent your scented soy pillar candles from loosing their scent? The answer is to decrease the two things that speed up scent loss: 1.) heat and 2.) exposure to air.

Wrap your Scented Soy Pillar Candles in plastic or, better yet, seal them in zipper bags or some type of airtight containers until you are ready to use them. Try to get as much of the air out of the container as possible, because if there is an air pocket in the container the aroma vapor will come out of the candle and fill that pocket.

Furthermore, keep your Scented Soy Pillar Candles in a cool place, away from light. Heat softens the wax and causes the particles of the essential oils to move around more rapidly. Radiation from exposure to light does the same thing. When the wax is soft and the particles are bouncing around, the scent will seep out of the candle.

If you keep your scented soy pillar candles sealed and in a cool, dark place they will retain as much of their fragrance as possible and still give off a rich, full aroma when you take them out and light them up!
