Mrs. O’Hare was strolling along a street in Ireland, and she happened to pass Father Houlihan.
“Hello,” said the priest, “And how’s Mrs. O’Hare, didn’t I perform the wedding for you and your husband a couple of years ago?”
“Yes you did, Father.”
“So are there any children yet?”
“No, not yet.” She said.
“Well now, I’ll be in Rome next week, and while I’m there I’ll light a candle for you.”
“Oh thank you, Father. It’s very kind of you to think of us.” And off she went.
Several years later they passed again.
“Well now, Mrs. O’Hare,” said the Father, “how are you?”
“Oh, quite well,” said she.
“And tell me,” he said, “have you had any wee little ones yet?”
“Why yes, Father. We’ve had 3 sets of twins, and 4 singles–10 in all.”
“Now that is wonderful,” he said. “And how’s your husband doing?”
“Oh,” she said, “he’s gone to Rome to blow out that bloody candle!”
