The olfactory nerves (in your nose) are stimulated by fragrances in the air you breathe and they communicate those sensations directly to your brain. Depending on what those sensations tell your brain about your environment, your brain then decides the appropriate way for your mind and body to react to your surroundings. For example, if you smell cookies baking, your brain will probably tell your body to get ready for a snack and your digestive system will respond by leaping in to action.
This is the premise behind using scented soy pillar candles infused with specific essential oils from trees, fruits, herbs, flowers, and other plants to elicit a desirable response from your mind and body. The essential oils are blended with the soy wax (and often other plant based waxes) and allowed to harden into scented soy pillar candles. Then, when lighted, the heat releases the fragrances into the air for your nose to enjoy.
People use aromatherapy scented soy pillar candles for all kinds of holistic purposes from antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal to pain-relief, stress-relief, and sexual stimulation.
In future posts we will focus on the specific different benefits of a whole host of essential oils available in scented soy pillar candles. But in this post we’re going to focus on aphrodisiacs (romantic or sexual stimulants).
The word aphrodisiac comes from the name of the Greek goddess of sensuality, love, and beauty, Aphrodite (pronounced like afro-die-tee). And an aphrodisiac is anything that stimulates sexual desire. In our case, it’s a specific smell from Scented Soy Pillar Candles.
Jasmine, rose, sandalwood, and ylang-ylang oils are some of the most common essential oils used in Scented Soy Pillar Candles as aphrodisiacs. Pick one of these to fill the room with just the right fragrance to set the mood for love. Anyone within smelling distance will know that love is in the air, literally.
Want to try out one of the aphrodisiac scented soy pillar candles and see if it perks up your sex life? The ylang-ylang in the box on the right is good for starters. It comes from a small greenish yellow flower found on the cananga tree in the rainforests of the Philippines and Indonesia. The scent is deep, sweet, and rich with traces of jasmine and pleasant hints of custard and rubber. This one is mostly soy wax, and is a round pillar which can be popped out of its resealable tin container or burned right in the can.
Have fun!

Obviously scented soy pillar candles give off the strongest aroma when they’re being burned. But the scent doesn’t stop evaporating just because you blow out the flame. The essential oils will continue to disperse and give off aroma at room temperature as long as the scented soy pillar candles are exposed to circulating air.
Because of this, some people use scented soy pillar candles to add light fragrance to their rooms on a continuous basis by just letting them sit, unlit, in the open air.
But there is a limit to the amount of fragrance in every scented soy pillar candle. So how can you prevent your scented soy pillar candles from loosing their scent? The answer is to decrease the two things that speed up scent loss: 1.) heat and 2.) exposure to air.
Wrap your Scented Soy Pillar Candles in plastic or, better yet, seal them in zipper bags or some type of airtight containers until you are ready to use them. Try to get as much of the air out of the container as possible, because if there is an air pocket in the container the aroma vapor will come out of the candle and fill that pocket.
Furthermore, keep your Scented Soy Pillar Candles in a cool place, away from light. Heat softens the wax and causes the particles of the essential oils to move around more rapidly. Radiation from exposure to light does the same thing. When the wax is soft and the particles are bouncing around, the scent will seep out of the candle.
If you keep your scented soy pillar candles sealed and in a cool, dark place they will retain as much of their fragrance as possible and still give off a rich, full aroma when you take them out and light them up!

Hate mosquitoes as much as I do? I believe their primary purpose on earth is to annoy and torment me; and I’m always looking for outdoor insect repellent to keep them at bay. But I really don’t like the idea of coating my body with toxic chemicals or sitting next to a paraffin wax citronella candle that gives off formaldehyde and other poisonous vapors. So what options do we have for natural insect repellent? Scented Soy Pillar Candles chocked full of natural essential oils that repel bugs are the way to go for your non-toxic, natural, backyard insect repellent needs.
The scented soy pillar candle I’ve linked to here is a blend of geranium, rosemary, and citronella essential oils combined with all natural, non-toxic, soy wax contained in an 8 ounce tin (2 inches high by 3.25 inches wide). The scent and natural vapors keep away mosquitoes, black flies, and other flying pests. Like most scented soy pillar candles it has a rich, pleasant scent and it burns for a long time. This one goes for about 55 hours.
What’s more, because Scented Soy Pillar Candles are safe on the skin, you can also rub the melted wax on your neck, arms, and legs to repel mosquitoes and keep your skin soft. (Or if you prefer, they offer a Bug Off! Spritzer
and a Bug Off! Bug Rub
, both made from the same ingredients.)

Merriam-Webster defines pillar as:
pil•lar
Pronunciation: \ˈpi-lər\
Function: noun
a: a firm upright support for a superstructure
b: a usually ornamental column or shaft; especially : one standing alone for a monument
Notice that the definition of pillar doesn’t really refer to a specific shape. Most people think of a pillar as being round, and while that is the most popular shape of scented soy pillar candles, it’s not the only shape available. In architectural history pillars and support columns have been square, oval, rectangular, pyramid and obelisk shaped (like the Washington Monument). And if you want them, you can find Scented Soy Pillar Candles in all of those shapes too.
If you’d like to see several photos and links to round scented soy pillar candles, scroll down to the bottom of this page.
And for those who like to be unconventional, here are a few examples of scented soy pillar candles in shapes other than round:

Well the burn time of Scented Soy Pillar Candles depends mostly on the size of the individual candle and on the volatility of the colors and scented oils in each candle. But, for the most part, ounce for ounce the Scented Soy Pillar Candles are going to burn longer than their competitors made from other types of wax.
When shopping for Scented Soy Pillar Candles you will most commonly find them in the shape of a cylinder (sort of like the shape of a can of Coke.) Popular widths (diameters) for scented soy pillar candles seem to be 3 and 4 inches across. And the heights of Scented Soy Pillar Candles range from 3 inches tall up to 12 inches and even taller.
We recommend going with Scented Soy Pillar Candles that are 3 inches wide by 3 inches tall. First, the taller they get they are more prone to tipping over which can be a fire hazard. So stick with the shorter Scented Soy Pillar Candles which are more stable and less likely to fall over. Second, the heat from a single wick in scented soy pillar candles will usually melt a little more than an inch around it on all sides. So a 3 inch wide candle is just right to melt properly for 1 wick. If you go with 4 inch wide scented soy pillar candles you might find yourself with a lot of unused wax around the edges when the wick has burned itself all the way down. But experiment with the different sizes and wick counts to determine which size scented soy pillar candles you like best.
Again, some of the colors and fragrances used in Scented Soy Pillar Candles burn more quickly than other colors and fragrances; so the best we can do is give you time ranges. In general, 3 inch wide by 3 inch tall scented soy pillar candles will burn anywhere from about 40 to 80 hours. 3 inch wide by 6 inch tall scented soy pillar candles will burn anywhere from about 80 to 160 hours. 3 inch wide by 9 inch tall scented soy pillar candles will burn anywhere from about 120 to 240 hours.

In the early 1990’s a man named Michael Richards launched his company, Candleworks, with the intention of making beeswax candles. Attempting to find a less expensive way meet the increasing demand for “natural” wax candles, he began testing the waxes and oils of a variety of plants. Initially he settled on a blend of beeswax and hydrogenated soybean oil as the best combo for making cheaper Scented Soy Pillar Candles.
Hydrogenated soybean oil is made by heating soybean oil while blowing millions of tiny hydrogen bubbles through it. The hydrogen molecules combine with the soybean oil to make it much, much thicker so that when it cools to room temperature it becomes a solid, like the wax used to make Scented Soy Pillar Candles!
In the mid 1990’s Candleworks’ biggest customer, The Body Shop, started ordering lots and lots of aromatherapy candles made with this blend. They were apparently a hit! As the demand for Scented Soy Pillar Candles increased, so did the need to find ways to manufacture them more efficiently and at lower costs. The formula was refined and perfected to include less and less of the expensive beeswax and more and more of the cheaper soy wax.
Since then the popularity of Scented Soy Pillar Candles has risen dramatically and the formulas have been improved upon even further. Studies comparing the smoke and fumes produced by burning scented soy pillar candles versus candles made with paraffin wax show that scented soy pillar candles emit little or no soot while paraffin candles produce a considerable amount. Paraffin candles have also been shown to give off harmful fumes like acrolein, formaldehyde and acetaldehyde. These toxins are almost non-existent in the natural Scented Soy Pillar Candles, making them the healthier alternative.

There are several different kinds of candles that you could buy (most commonly paraffin wax or beeswax), so what makes Scented Soy Pillar Candles the right choice for you?
BETTER SCENT:
The hydrogenated soybean oil which is used to make Scented Soy Pillar Candles holds and transmits scented oils better than paraffin, so they give off a much richer and longer lasting aroma.
LONGER BURNING:
Scented Soy Pillar Candles last up to 30% to 50% longer than other candle varieties.
LESS EXPENSIVE:
The main ingredient of Scented Soy Pillar Candles (hydrogenated soybean oil) is much more common and less expensive than paraffin or beeswax, so you’ll save money.
CLEANER:
Paraffin, beeswax, and the really old-fashioned tallow candles emit sooty black smoke while burning. Scented Soy Pillar Candles burn much cleaner and do not put off the soot. So your house stays cleaner.
HEALTHIER:
Because they burn cleaner, Scented Soy Pillar Candles are better for people with asthma, allergies, or other breathing difficulties.
ENVIRONMENTALLY BETTER:
Scented Soy Pillar Candles are made from soybeans which are grown in massive crops by farmers in America and around the world. So they are a renewable resource with little impact on the ecosystem.
WASHABLE:
The melted wax from Scented Soy Pillar Candles is water soluble so spills clean up fast and easy with soap and water.
